He's only thinking of victory this
weekend
Jonathan heads to Shenington in Oxfordshire this weekend (4/5
October) for the final round of the British Super 1 Championship - and is
intent on winning.
Although Derbyshire's Mark Litchfield has already
sealed the title, Jonathan can move from his present 4th place in the table to
second with strong performance in Sunday's two finals.
"It's all very
close," Jonny says. "I'm going out to win both finals - that's what I'm aiming
for. You can't do any better than that, can you?"
Although he has been a
regular on the podium, the 20-year old star has yet to win a race in the
Championship this season - and is looking to end his duck at the fast track,
which tests motors to the limit.
Looking forward to Sunday's racing he
said, "I'm quite relaxed. I like the circuit. Mark (Litchfield) will be quick,
as will his team-mate, Chris Rogers. It was like that last year - any one of us
could have won, until we all blew our engines up!"
Jonathan will surely
draw inspiration from his victory in last Sunday's Daytona 6 Hour race at
Milton Keynes International, in which he helped Karting Magazine's team to beat
13 others, including four from F1's McLaren, Honda (2) and Force
India.
After 6 gruelling hours of non-stop, on-the-limit racing,
Jonathan brought the team's kart home, several laps ahead of Force India and
Honda.
"I got a phone call from one of the journalists at Karting,
asking me to join two other karters in their team, because the editor wanted to
win. It was really good fun and you should've seen the F1 boys' faces - they
were not happy!"
He added, "If I can have another perfect, trouble-free
run like I did at Daytona, then I'll be adding more silverware to the
collection."
Similar to Grand Prix racing, Jonathan will take part in
Timed Qualifying on Saturday afternoon before the racing proper gets underway
on Sunday morning.
