The British Super 1 season reaches its
mid-point at the picturesque Whilton Mill circuit, near Daventry this weekend
(4/5 July)..
After a dramatic previous round at Rowrah, where he
suffered a huge crash that destroyed his Gillard chassis, Jonathan battled on
to take brave fifth and tenth places.
After nearly an entire month lay
off to get back in shape, he's ready to return to the fray. However, pre-race
testing has gone well and Jonathan is confident that he has the pace to fight
for trophies, come Sunday.
"I've got a new chassis from Gillard and
we've up-rated the brakes to give the front end more bite" he said. "I'll be
trying to win both finals on Sunday, and if that's not quite possible, then a
top three finish will do."
The series remains in the balance, with
just fourteen points separating Jonny from the championship lead. He says,
"It's still close. The small field means that there's very little difference
between the top drivers."
Whilton Mill is hosting British karting's
premier class for only the second time in recent years and has yet to win
Jonathan over.
"It's not my favourite, no. It's very bumpy, with
four different surface changes. When you hit them at speed, the bumps unsettle
the kart and make you feel like your eyeballs are rattling around your helmet.
They definitely loosen your fillings! Whilton's also quite narrow, so you get a
lot of crashes. There are better circuits we can go to but you can't complain,
you've just got to get stuck in."
The AMT driver will also use the
weekend as an opportunity to display the fantastic Freeminds range of racewear
and karting products, as he is now the official UK concessionaire for the
Italian brand.
"I've just taken delivery of a new suit to show just
how good Freeminds' products are and will also be showing off their 'Spider
Touch' gloves, Freem race boots and 'Brave' rib protectors. Come and see the
range at AMT's awning in the paddock and feel the quality."
